Bosaso, Somalia – The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has announced that it conducted a joint airstrike with the Federal Government of Somalia in a location 72 km south of the city of Bosaso, in the Bari region.

The airstrike targeted members of the ISIS-affiliated group operating in the mountainous areas of Puntland. AFRICOM stated that the operation is part of ongoing joint efforts to weaken Al-Shabaab and ISIS groups that pose a threat to regional security.

The Somali government also confirmed that two airstrikes were carried out in the same area in coordination with U.S. forces. The government emphasized that this operation is part of a broader strategic campaign that has recently been carried out in the Bari region, aiming to target ISIS strongholds.

No official casualty figures from the strikes have yet been released, but further details are expected in the coming hours or days.

Joint operations between U.S. and Somali forces have intensified in recent years, especially in regions where militant groups like Al-Shabaab and ISIS are most active.
