Kismayo, Somalia – The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, carried out an airstrike on May 24, 2025, targeting members of the Al-Shabaab militant group approximately 40 miles northwest of Kismayo, according to a statement released by AFRICOM on May 27, 2025.

AFRICOM confirmed that the airstrike is part of ongoing efforts to support Somalia’s Federal Government and the Somali National Armed Forces in maintaining security and stability in the Jubaland region.

“The airstrike took place approximately 40 miles northwest of Kismayo, Somalia,” the AFRICOM statement said, although it did not provide specific details regarding casualties or damage caused.

AFRICOM stated that it will continue working closely with the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali National Armed Forces to maintain security and stability in the region.

In recent weeks, joint operations by federal and Jubaland forces have targeted Al-Shabaab militants.
