SoohoydeThe Puntland Regional State of Somalia has announced that airstrikes carried out in the mountains of the eastern Bari region targeted members of the Daacish group. According to a statement from the Puntland Counterterrorism Operation on June 2, 2025, the strikes took place in four locations between the Baalade and Miraale valleys.The strikes were conducted by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). According to the forces, the airstrikes targeted militants believed to be members of Daacish, who were reportedly trying to hide in caves located in the area.The report also indicated that a ground operation conducted by Puntland security forces resulted in the killing of more than 10 Daacish members who were said to be present in the Shaakaalooyin area—located between the Baalade and Miraale valleys.No independent confirmation has yet verified the exact casualties resulting from the attacks.This operation is part of Puntland’s ongoing efforts to secure the region and combat armed groups operating in the mountains of the Bari region.
