Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-On Thursday, troops from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) conducted joint patrols in Embresso and Barawe town to clear improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Al-Shabaab militants and secure the Main Supply Routes.During the operation, Lt. Col. Gerald Sempijja, Commanding Officer of the UPDF 27th Infantry Battalion, reaffirmed ATMIS’s commitment to degrading Al-Shabaab and ensuring peace and stability in Barawe and its surrounding areas.Barawe District SNAF Commander, Col. Ali Dagaal Hersi, emphasized the importance of these patrols in stabilizing the Lower Shabelle region. Barawe, a key port town located 200 kilometers south of Mogadishu, has been the site of deadly fighting and ambush attacks on AU bases, particularly those manned by Ugandan forces and the Somali National Army.The joint efforts by ATMIS and SNAF highlight the ongoing collaboration to enhance security and counter the threat posed by Al-Shabaab in the region.
