ENTEBBE, UGANDA – April 25, 2025 — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Youssouf Ali, has appealed to the international community to urgently mobilize $190 million to sustain ongoing peacekeeping and stabilization efforts in Somalia through the ATMIS and AUSSOM missions.Speaking during a high-level AU summit on Somalia held in Entebbe, Uganda, Chairperson Ali praised the troop-contributing countries and outlined the operational and funding challenges that threaten to undermine the progress achieved in Somalia’s security landscape.Call for Swift Implementation of UN Resolution 2719Chairperson Ali stressed the urgent need for full and rapid implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2719, which outlines a comprehensive framework for security transitions and intensified efforts against extremist groups like Al-Shabaab.“We are appealing to the international community to contribute $190 million to support the plans for AUSSOM and ATMIS.
