Mogadishu – The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) has strongly condemned an attack by Al-Shabaab on its troops stationed in the village of Buurane, Mahaday district in Hirshabelle State.In a press statement, AUSSOM stated that the attack occurred while AU troops were preparing a landing zone for a helicopter. The statement noted that the soldiers responded quickly and effectively, repelling the attackers and killing one militant during the clash.Sivuyile Bam, Acting Head of AUSSOM, emphasized that such attacks will not weaken their commitment to Somalia’s peace.“The cowardly act of planting roadside bombs will not deter our determination to help Somalia achieve the lasting peace its people have long hoped for,” said Bam.He added that AUSSOM would continue its support to the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali Security Forces in their operations against Al-Shabaab.Mr. Bam also praised the swift and effective response of the AUSSOM Burundian troops, stating that their action helped minimize casualties.
