Bosaso(Mogadishu24)-Bosaso Airport is operating normally despite developing tensions and fears of disruption in the port town, according to Puntland State authorities Thursday.

The General Director of the Ministry of Aviation, Maah Ahmed Yusuf, assured reporters that the airport remains under government control, with no shutdown in place. “The airport is functioning smoothly, including international flights,” Yusuf said, dismissing rumors of interference.

Concerns arose earlier when residents near the airport were seen fleeing their homes on Thursday, amid reports of potential conflict. However, local authorities have accused truckers of causing panic, asserting that the situation in the city remains calm and peaceful.

Tensions heightened following a directive by the Puntland Security Force (PSF) on Wednesday, ordering a temporary halt in airport operations and advising residents near the area to evacuate.

The PSF’s action came after an attempt to evacuate injured PSF soldiers through the airport was reportedly blocked, further highlighting the ongoing dispute between the PSF and the Puntland government.

The PSF, which has utilized Bosaso Airport for military purposes over the past three years, issued a warning on September 11, 2024, cautioning that access to the airport could remain restricted until it is restored for full civilian use.

“The airport won’t stay restricted. Use with caution until restored for all citizens,” the PSF said.

While tensions between the PSF and the Puntland government continue, authorities maintain that the airport is fully operational, urging residents to remain calm as the situation stabilizes.
