By Asha ElmiXawaadley, Somalia – The African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) has confirmed the safe evacuation of Burundi troops stationed at the Xawaadley base in Middle Shabelle following severe flooding in the area.In an official statement released today, AUSSOM reported that the evacuation took place on Monday and proceeded smoothly despite a technical fault affecting one helicopter, which the pilots managed to handle safely.“All troops and personnel were successfully relocated to a nearby military base without any reported casualties,” the statement said.AUSSOM praised the preparedness and professionalism of the Burundi forces, which contributed to the smooth execution of the operation.Additionally, AUSSOM reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the Federal Government of Somalia and the people in mitigating the impact of flooding and other challenges, while monitoring the situation and providing necessary assistance to maintain stability and security.
