Hargeisa, Somaliland – A tragic car accident claimed the lives of three family members and left two others critically injured in the final hours of 2024. The accident occurred on December 31, near the Dacar-Budhuq area, just outside Hargeisa. According to the Somaliland Police, specifically the Road Safety Department, the vehicle involved in the crash was a Toyota Noah.

The victims, all members of the same family, were traveling together when the accident took place. Emergency responders swiftly transported the injured to nearby medical facilities, while authorities launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

In a statement, the Somaliland Police expressed their condolences to the bereaved families, saying:
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families affected by this devastating accident. May Allah grant peace to those who passed away and place them in paradise.“

Road accidents remain a persistent issue in Somaliland. A 2023 study conducted in Hargeisa revealed a sharp increase in traffic accidents over the past decade, with a 28.17% rise in incidents reported in just the last two years.

Authorities and safety advocates have called for urgent measures to address the growing menace of road accidents, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, better road infrastructure, and increased public awareness campaigns to reduce fatalities.
