President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh and Vice President of the Russian Parliament, Viktoria Abramchenko, attending the meeting to strengthen Djibouti-Russia relations.

Djibouti – On Wednesday, President of Djibouti, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, received the Vice President of the Russian Parliament, Viktoria Abramchenko, at the Presidential Palace during her official visit to Djibouti. The visit, which focused on strengthening bilateral relations and development cooperation, highlighted the growing ties between the two nations.

According to the Djibouti Presidency, the purpose of the visit was to enhance collaboration between the two countries in sectors such as economy, infrastructure, higher education, vocational training, and port services. After the meeting, Viktoria Abramchenko described Djibouti’s strategic geographic location, calling it an “important gateway” for Russia to access markets in the Horn of Africa.

“Djibouti’s strategic geographic location makes it an important gateway for Russia to reach markets in the Horn of Africa,” Abramchenko said. She further emphasized that Djibouti is a “strategic gateway” for Russia to expand its trade in the region.

The meeting underscored the mutual interest in establishing a long-term strategic partnership. The Russian side expressed its readiness to support private Russian investors who are interested in doing business in Djibouti

The meeting was attended by senior officials from both countries. From Djibouti, the Speaker of the Djiboutian Parliament, Mr. Dileita Mohamed Dileita, members of the parliamentary office, and Djibouti’s Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Mohamed Ali Kamil, were present. The Russian delegation included Sardana Avksentieva, Vice-President of the Parliament’s Committee on State Building and Legislation, and Evegueniy Bessonov, a member of the Committee on Budget and Taxes. Russia’s Ambassador to Djibouti, Mikhail Golovanov, was also present

Dileita reaffirmed the Djiboutian Parliament’s commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations and their people, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation. This visit also reflects Russia’s growing interest in building deeper relations with African countries, with Djibouti being recognized as one of the key strategic nations in the region.

This meeting is seen as a significant step in enhancing Russia-Djibouti relations and expanding Russia’s presence in Africa through strategic partnerships and investment opportunities in Djibouti.
