Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-Djibouti marked World Energy Day on Monday with a series of events under the theme “Energy Efficiency – A Driver of Sustainable Development.” The celebration, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, emphasized the nation’s priorities in energy efficiency and sustainable practices.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, energy sector leaders, international partners, and civil society representatives.

Attendees heard from notable speakers such as Prime Minister Mohamed, Energy Minister Yonis Ali Guedi, and UNDP Resident Representative Philippe Clerc, who highlighted Djibouti’s progress in renewable energy projects and the importance of continuing efforts to combat climate change.

Prime Minister Mohamed underscored that access to affordable, sustainable energy is a fundamental right and a national priority. He called for broader cooperation among civil society, businesses, and international partners to develop durable energy solutions.

The Energy Minister highlighted Djibouti’s achievements in transitioning from external energy dependence to a more self-reliant system focused on clean, renewable resources.

The event included a presentation on the Ministry’s initiatives in energy efficiency, showcasing completed and ongoing projects, followed by a panel discussion on the benefits and challenges of sustainable energy practices in Djibouti.

In conjunction with the celebration, the Ministry launched a week-long public awareness campaign to promote energy-saving habits and the use of efficient appliances, aiming to foster a culture of sustainability among residents.
