Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-Following the horrific terrorist attack on Beach View Hotel in Mogadishu on Friday, Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed extended their condolences to Somalia.

“We strongly condemn the cowardly attack in Mogadishu. Targeting civilians demonstrates the desperation of these criminals. We stand firmly with Somalia against terrorism and continue to support our Somali brothers and sisters. My deepest condolences to the victims and their families,” President Guelleh said on X.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his sorrow, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives and the injuries sustained in the horrific terrorist attack on Mogadishu’s popular beach. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of Somalia during this difficult time.”

The attack, which left 37 people dead and 247 others injured according to Somalia’s health ministry, was also condemned by the UK, U.S., Saudi Arabia, European Union, Turkey, State of Qatar and the United Nations. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that its fighters killed 54 people and injured 87 others, targeting government officials.

The international community, alongside Djibouti and Ethiopia, reiterated their support for Somalia in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing the need for unity and resilience in the face of such atrocities.
