Shire AbdiCarta, Djibouti – The Djiboutian government has officially handed over 100 homes to low-income families living in the city of Carta and the Weyca area in the Carta region. A grand ceremony was held at the housing site where beneficiaries were presented with the keys to their new homes.The houses were allocated specifically to families with special needs, orphans, and impoverished residents of the Carta region. Officials speaking at the event urged the families to take good care of their new homes and not to rent them out.“I urge the recipients to take pride in their homes and look after them. This is valuable property they now own, lifting them out of homelessness. They must not rent these houses,” said Mohamed Ali Osman, Director of the Housing Rights Authority.The project was spearheaded by the Housing Rights Authority, which oversaw the implementation of this vital initiative. Mohamed Ali Osman highlighted that the project is part of ongoing efforts to support families with special needs and those unable to afford housing. Plans are underway to expand this program to all five regions of Djibouti.The housing handover ceremony was attended by various officials, including the Director of the Housing Rights Authority, Mohamed Ali Osman, the Secretary-General of the National Women’s Union of Djibouti, and members of Djibouti’s Parliament.Officials emphasized that this project reflects the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of underprivileged communities, particularly those in rural areas.This housing initiative is part of Djibouti’s broader strategy to reduce the country’s housing deficit. It is expected to play a significant role in supporting vulnerable families who cannot afford to build homes, aligning with the government’s efforts to strengthen public welfare services.
