Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, was received at the Élysée Palace by French President Emmanuel Macron to finalize and formally sign a new defence treaty between the two nations.

Following private discussions and a working session between their delegations, the two leaders agreed on the ambitious reform of the Treaty of Defence Cooperation (TCMD). The renewed TCMD underscores the strong relationship and strategic interests shared by France and Djibouti.

President Guelleh praised the “solidity and depth” of Franco-Djibouti relations, highlighting Djibouti’s critical role in regional stability. President Macron commended Guelleh’s efforts to ensure peace and security in a region facing numerous crises, reaffirming France’s support for these initiatives.

The signing of the new defence treaty consolidates a strategic partnership essential to both countries, reaffirming their mutual commitment to defence and security. The agreement aims to strengthen France’s historic partnership with Djibouti and ensure increased security in a key region of the globe.
