Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-Djibouti President, Ismaël Omar Guelleh, inaugurated a hydroponic farm, a modern way of farming that operates without soil in the Tadjourah region Thursday. The plants are cultivated in perforated canals where they are irrigated with water enriched with mineral salts. The President said that the inauguration of this farm was an initiative aimed at improving food security in the Tadjourah region and Djibouti as a whole, saying It was also a perfect illustration of the efforts the Djibouti government is making to address the challenges of climate change.“Indeed, climate change is causing more frequent and intense droughts, which makes traditional plant growing more difficult. The Hydroponic Farm of Day is therefore an innovative solution that allows plants to grow even in difficult conditions”, he said. The new modern technique of growing plants using water based nutrient solution rather than soil will be useful for the production of both vegetables and fruits within a short period of time.
