Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-In a significant step toward urban modernization, Djibouti City inaugurated the newly renovated Rue de Konya on Friday. The ceremony, led by Djibouti’s Mayor Said Mohamed Daoud and attended by Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Burhanettin Duran, showcased the city’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure for its residents and opening new avenues of accessibility.The fully paved Rue de Konya now provides direct access to the Abdulhamid II Mosque, making a once-dusty, difficult-to-navigate road into a symbol of progress.The event gathered key officials, including Djibouti’s Minister of Muslim Affairs and Waqf Properties, Moumin Hassan Barreh, and Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, and Equipment, Hassan Houmed, alongside Turkish Ambassador Erdal Sabri Ergen.“For Djibouti, this transformation of Rue de Konya is part of a broader effort to build a welcoming, forward-looking capital,” said Mayor Daoud, emphasizing the importance of modern infrastructure. Under his leadership, Djibouti City has undertaken several initiatives over the past two years, including tree planting, clearing public spaces, and restoring popular beaches like Siesta and Héron.These projects reflect a citywide strategy aimed at promoting environmental and civic awareness, and Daoud reiterated his vision of a thriving, accessible, and sustainable Djibouti City.
