Djibouti City, Djibouti – The Ministry of Health of Djibouti has officially launched the first phase of the national polio vaccination campaign, which is scheduled to run from April 12 to 16, 2025. The campaign aims to reach every child under the age of five across the country.The nationwide effort will be conducted in health facilities, schools, homes, and other public gathering locations throughout both urban centers and rural areas.Speaking at a press conference, Djibouti’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Robleh Abdilleh, underscored the importance of national unity in preventing the spread of poliovirus. He stressed that vaccination remains the most effective and safest method to ensure protection.“The health of our children is a shared responsibility and our top priority,” Dr. Abdilleh stated. “We must act now to protect their future.”While Djibouti has not recorded any active polio cases, recent outbreaks in neighboring countries have raised concerns and led to the launch of this preventive measure.“We cannot afford to wait. This is about safeguarding the health of our children and the future of our nation,” the minister added.The campaign is supported by international organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. It is part of Djibouti’s broader national health strategy and calls for collective action. Parents, educators, and community leaders are urged to actively participate to ensure full vaccination coverage.
