DJIBOUTI CITY, DJIBOUTI – The Government of Djibouti has announced a national initiative aimed at narrowing the digital divide between men and women, as part of its observance of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

Djibouti’s Minister of Communication, Culture, and Telecommunications, Ridwan Abdillahi Bahdon, stated  on 17 May 2025 during the celebration that the government is committed to ensuring women fully benefit from technological advancement and access to digital services.

“This day is an opportunity to reinforce the role of women in using modern digital media to promote digital equality,” said Minister Bahdon.

He added that the government plans to implement awareness campaigns and training programs targeting women to increase their participation in the digital society and media-based economy.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, established in 1865 with the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is being marked this year under the theme of reducing the digital gender gap. The focus is on ensuring women worldwide have equal access to digital tools and resources essential to modern development.
