Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh on Friday afternoon flew to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 37th Ordinary Summit of the African Union (AU) to be held on February 17 and 18.“This summit will be an opportunity for African heads of state and government to discuss a number of important issues, including the settlement of the crises and conflicts shaking the continent, the election of a new UA President, the financial independence of the Organization and the appointment of Africa’s in the G20 Representative”, the Presidency said in a statement.On the sidelines of the summit, President Guelleh will also lead a meeting of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), of which he is the acting president.Attending the 37th AU Summit in Addis Ababa. On the agenda: resolving conflicts, electing a new AU President, achieving financial independence & naming Africa's G20 Rep. I'll lead IGAD talks on Sudan & Somalia crises too. Together we'll build a better future for Africa— Ismail Omar Guelleh (@IsmailOguelleh) February 16, 2024 The conflict in Sudan and the dispute between Ethiopia and Somalia will be on the agenda of this meeting.President Guelleh will also take advantage of his trip to Ethiopia to meet with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali as well as his peers heads of state and government from IGAD and the continent.This summit is an important opportunity for African leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities facing the continent.President Guelleh will play an active role in the discussions and work to find lasting solutions to the problems affecting Africa.
