Djibouti Strengthens Cooperation with China to Achieve Its Energy Goals

Beijing, China – The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Djibouti, Yonis Ali Guedi, was officially received in Beijing, where he held a high-level meeting with executives from China First Highway Engineering Co. Ltd (CFHEC), a subsidiary of the global infrastructure giant China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

The meeting took place at CFHEC headquarters on May 1, 2025 and was attended by members of the Djiboutian delegation, including Technical Advisor Mahdi Waberi Hassan, Director of Natural Resources Adan Hyd Ismail, and representatives from Salt Investment S.A. and the Ghoubet Wind Farm.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral energy cooperation and exploring new investment opportunities in Djibouti’s energy sector—deemed essential for the Djibouti’s economic autonomy.

CFHEC expressed strong interest in playing a significant role in Djibouti’s infrastructure development, including the construction of the new Ministry of Energy headquarters and the International Oil Organization of Djibouti (SIHD) in the Energia Park zone.

Minister Guedi praised CFHEC’s professionalism and dedication, reaffirming Djibouti’s commitment to a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership.

CFHEC manages over 1,000 infrastructure projects under the CCCC umbrella, which holds assets worth $30 billion and secured over $41 billion in new contracts in 2024, with operational revenues nearing $18 billion.
