The Republic of Djibouti has warmly welcomed home its Hiil Walaal 10 battalion, which has been serving for the past two years as part of the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

The returning troops were officially received at Djibouti’s main airport by Minister of Defense Hassan Omar Mohamed Burhaan and Chief of the Armed Forces Zakaria Sheikh Ibrahim.

Upon arrival, the soldiers underwent medical screening procedures to ensure their well-being and to complete standard reintegration protocols.

Djibouti has been a key contributor to Somalia’s peacekeeping efforts since its troops first deployed to Somalia in December 2011.

Other countries participating in the mission include Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Currently, the peacekeeping framework is transitioning from ATMIS to a new Somali-led mission known as AUSSOM (African Union Support & Stabilization Mission in  Somalia).
