Cape Town, South Africa-Mogadishu24)–Djibouti’s Parliament Speaker, Dileita Mohamed Dileita, is in South Africa seeking support for Djibouti’s candidate for the top seat at the African Union Commission (AUC).During his visit, he held meetings with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and members of the South African parliament to rally backing for Djibouti’s bid.This visit is part of Djibouti’s broader efforts to secure African nations’ support ahead of the AUC chairperson election, scheduled for February 2025 during the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, Mahmoud Ali Youesuf, has also been visiting various African countries, including South Sudan, to garner support for the campaign.This year, the AUC leadership position is allocated to candidates from East Africa, with Djibouti, Kenya, Mauritius, and Madagascar all fielding contenders for the role.
