Dubai(Mogadishu24)-Representatives from the Group of 77 + China gathered for a meeting to discuss the group’s commitment and actions on climate change, held on the sidelines of the COP28 Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.The meeting was attended by representatives from the member states of the Group of 77 + China, including Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh.The President highlighted Djibouti’s commitment to COP28 and advocated at the G77 + China summit for the implementation of climate funds during the last forum on ‘green industrialization.’He called for the rapid implementation of climate solidarity funds, such as the one on “loss and damage” decided at COP27.“I remain committed to COP28, advocating at the G77+China summit for the implementation of climate funds, and during the forum on green industrialization, for the expansion of green energy in Africa, all with the aim of supporting sustainable growth,” President Guelleh said.The president further urged the United Nations, G77 member states, and other funding organizations to show unity, cooperation, and collaboration to allocate more funds to vulnerable nations to tackle the consequences of climate change.He also participated in the African Alliance for Green Industrialization forum, advocating for increased use of green energy to promote sustainable economic growth on the continent and counter the devastating effects of climate change.The member states of the G77 consist of developing countries collaborating on economic and trade development with the support of the United Nations.Although the bloc has 134 member countries, it still retain the status of the first countries to sign up for it in 1964, during their inaugural meeting in Geneva.
