Jigjiga, Somali Regional State – A regional conference aimed at tackling ongoing challenges in the education sector was held in Jigjiga, bringing together key stakeholders to explore practical solutions and emphasize the crucial role of teachers and school administrators in improving the quality of education.The event, organized by the Somali Regional State (SRS) Education Bureau, brought together school principals, educators, local government officials, and representatives from the Jigjiga city administration. The main objective was to assess the current state of education in the region and develop a strategic roadmap to enhance academic standards.Speaking at the gathering, Dayib Mohamed Jama, Deputy Minister of the DDS Education Bureau, stressed the importance of integrity in the academic system.“We aim to ensure that 60 to 70 percent of the students under our care succeed through legitimate efforts—not through corruption,” he stated. “This year, many students are participating in online learning programs, and the process of educational development is ongoing.”Also addressing the conference was Shafi Ahmed, Mayor of Jigjiga, who underscored the importance of coordination between education officials and local administrators in raising the quality of teaching and learning.The discussion highlighted key issues affecting schools across the region, including resource limitations, inconsistent teaching standards, and the need for capacity building among school leadership.
