Cairo, Egypt(Mogadishu24)- In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Egypt, both Egypt and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding Somalia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and stability.The two nations emphasized their support for Somalia’s ongoing efforts to restore security and achieve national unity under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.The statement praised the reforms and security improvements achieved in several Somali regions and underscored the importance of continued international support to help Somalia eliminate terrorism.Both sides welcomed the recent UN Security Council decision to lift the arms embargo on Somalia and the international community’s agreement to relieve Somalia of its debt burden.Additionally, the joint statement referenced the Arab League’s January 2024 resolution supporting Somalia’s security and territorial integrity, urging regional cooperation to avoid tensions and conflicts.Saudi Arabia also expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to promote peace in Somalia and commended Egypt’s offer to participate in the new peacekeeping mission, aimed at restoring stability and fulfilling the aspirations of the Somali people.
