Ambassador Nebiyu Tedla, emphasized Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to secure dependable sea access. He also expressed gratitude to Turkey for facilitating the discussions between Ethiopia and Somalia, noting that both countries have agreed to continue their dialogue in a third round of negotiations.Monitoring Regional Security and Peacekeeping in SomaliaAmbassador Tedla also addressed Ethiopia’s role in regional security, particularly in relation to the upcoming peacekeeping mission in Somalia. As a neighboring country, a key troop contributor, and a significant stakeholder in the region’s stability, Ethiopia is closely monitoring the situation. The spokesperson stressed the importance of considering the views of all troop-contributing countries to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) in any future peacekeeping arrangements.Tedla underscored the need for careful consultation with relevant institutions, including the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN), to ensure a smooth transition and to avoid misunderstandings or regional tensions. He also highlighted the importance of adhering to relevant Security Council resolutions in the process.Update on Ethiopian Migrants in LebanonIn addition to the talks with Somalia, Ambassador Tedla provided an update on the status of Ethiopian migrants in Lebanon. He reassured that there is no imminent threat necessitating an evacuation and that the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate in Beirut are actively monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of Ethiopian citizens.The press conference highlighted Ethiopia’s diplomatic priorities, both in terms of regional stability and the protection of its citizens abroad, as the country continues to navigate complex international challenges.
