Addis Ababa(Mogadishu24)-Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie has been appointed as Ethiopia’s new president, replacing Sahle-Work Zewde. The appointment was confirmed during a joint session of the House of People’s Representatives (HoPR) and the House of Federation (HoF) held earlier today.

Ambassador Taye has been serving as Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs since February 8, 2024, and has held several ambassadorial roles at the United Nations. While the specific reasons for the removal of former President Sahle-Work Zewde remain unclear, reports suggest she had expressed dissatisfaction with the situation in the country on X (formerly Twitter).
