Hargeisa(Mogadishu24)-European Union diplomats and ambassadors from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, the Czech Republic, and France met with Somaliland’s incumbent President Muse Bihi Abdi at the Presidential Palace on Thursday to commend Somaliland on the success of its joint presidential and party elections held on November 13.Over 1.2 million citizens cast ballots to elect the president, vice president, and political party representatives for the next five-year term.During their visit, the diplomats praised Somaliland’s peaceful electoral process, lauding the maturity and democratic spirit displayed by voters across the region.They recognized the transparency and independence upheld by the National Electoral Commission (NEC), noting that it successfully facilitated voter registration and candidate nominations, which fostered public confidence.The delegation observed the elections across more than 30 polling stations in Hargeisa, Borama, Berbera, and Gabiley, witnessing firsthand the commitment to democracy among Somalilanders. They urged all presidential candidates and their supporters to respect the election results and maintain peace and order.However, the electoral commission cautions politicians and media to await official results, noting any disputes will be resolved in court within 10 days.
