Mogadishu — Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, attended the celebration of Europe Day 2025 in Mogadishu, where he spoke about the significant cooperation between Somalia and the European Union. The event highlighted the mutual relationship and the support the European Union has provided to Somalia, especially in areas such as security, economic development, humanitarian aid, and national reconstruction.The Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role the European Union has played in Somalia’s progress. He pointed out that Somalia has made significant strides, particularly with the recent National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting, which resulted in effective decisions that will further the country’s development.“We are laying the foundation for an inclusive electoral process, free from interference and fear. Though it is a challenging task, we know that democracy is worth it,” said the Prime Minister.Somalia’s Goal for One-Person, One-Vote ElectionsHamza Abdi Barre emphasized that the government’s goal is to hold one-person, one-vote elections across all regions of the country.
