Former President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of steering the country toward further chaos following his invitation to the National Consultative Forum, scheduled to be held on June 15, 2025.In a statement released today, President Farmaajo claimed that the invitation extended and the outlined agenda reflect that President Hassan is still avoiding addressing the current political crisis and the heavy weight of unresolved national issues, particularly the ongoing political disputes.“The President has directed the country down a path of further instability, and this is evidenced by the manner in which the invitation for the Forum has been handled, which fails to address the core issues of the ongoing conflict,” said Farmaajo in his statement.Farmaajo added that among the points of contention were the proposed amendments to the Constitution and electoral matters, which he argued that President Hassan is now planning further unconstitutional changes to the 11 chapters of the constitution, going against previously agreed terms. This statement from Farmaajo comes after government media outlets reported on June 4, 2025, that invitations to the National Consultative Forum had been sent to former Presidents, former Speakers of the Federal Parliament, former Prime Ministers, former regional Presidents, political parties, civil society groups, and other important political figures to participate in the Forum called by President Hassan on June 15.
