Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has condemned the arrest of Abdirahman Saleeban Jama, Chairman of the People’s Political Movement, by Somalia’s security forces. The arrest took place at the Xamarweyne police station, and Farmaajo criticized it in a statement, saying it reflects the type of election process that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud aims for.

Farmaajo expressed concern that the detention could harm political stability and undermine Somalia’s democratic processes. He called it an “illegal arrest” and said it shows the political direction of the current administration.

The former president also urged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to release Abdirahman Saleeban Jama and restore his freedom.

The Banaadir Police Command confirmed the arrest, stating that Abdirahman was detained for actions considered a threat to national security. The police have warned citizens against engaging in activities that could destabilize the country’s security.
