Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-On Monday, members of the bicameral Federal Parliament from Jubaland accepted an invitation from Jubaland State President Ahmed Mohamed for consultations over national political issues, scheduled to take place in Kismayo from November 8 to 11.The invitation follows significant developments, including yesterday’s resignations of State Minister for Planning, Investment, and Economic Development Abdirashid Jire and Deputy Minister of Education Ahmed Osman Ibrahim, both of whom cited dissatisfaction with the federal government’s unmet goals. These resignations come amid ongoing political tensions and a recent failed National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting, where Puntland and Jubaland boycotted, leading to an incomplete consensus. In a communique issued by the remaining Federal Member States (FMS) and the Federal Government, a one-year extension for local council and FMS-level elections was proposed. However, this extension has been firmly rejected by Puntland and Jubaland, with Jubaland announcing its intention to proceed with elections as scheduled this year.During a parliamentary address last Thursday, President Hassan Sh. Mohamud reaffirmed his commitment to implementing a one-person, one-vote electoral model, despite challenges of security and great opposition from these two FMS and others.
