Qabribayax, Somali Regional State – Panic and fear gripped the town of Qabribayax in the Faafan region yesterday at noon after a fire broke out in several business establishments.

According to Somali Regional State authorities, the fire erupted around noon in Qabribayax, causing significant loss of property. The fire specifically affected twelve (12) business centers, mostly restaurants. Additionally, one person sustained minor injuries, as confirmed by local officials.

“The fire affected 12 business centers, and one person sustained minor injuries,” stated the Mayor of Qabribayax, Khalid Mohamed, while speaking to local media.

The mayor also highlighted that a swift response by local residents helped contain the fire, preventing further damage. He noted that had the fire not been controlled in time, the destruction could have been much worse.

City officials have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. The mayor assured that once the investigation is complete, the findings will be shared with the public.

Furthermore, he pointed out that fire trucks sometimes struggle to reach affected areas due to accessibility issues, which hampers firefighting efforts. He urged businesses and the general public to remain vigilant, especially during windy and dry seasons, when fires are more likely to occur.

Finally, the Mayor of Qabribayax wished the affected business owners a speedy recovery and encouraged the community to always support each other during natural disasters.
