The Somali Regional State of Ethiopia (DDS) officially inaugurated its first Islamic university in Jigjiga today. This institution, dedicated exclusively to Islamic studies, represents a significant advancement in the region’s educational and religious landscape.

The inauguration ceremony attracted a diverse and distinguished audience, including senior members of the Islamic Council, the university’s founding team, the Deputy Minister from the President’s Office, as well as delegates from Somaliland and Puntland. Community leaders and representatives from various societal sectors were also present, underscoring the broad support for this initiative.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister highlighted the critical need for an institution dedicated to Islamic education in the region, emphasizing its role in addressing a growing demand for specialized learning. “This university is a response to a longstanding need for structured education in Islamic disciplines, ensuring that future generations are grounded in both knowledge and values,” he noted.
