Dhusamareb(Mogadishu24)-Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor-Qoor) made a significant cabinet change on Wednesday by appointing Ali Mohamud Farah (Ali Seko) as the new Minister of Information, replacing Abshir Abdi Shiikhow.

The sudden replacement of Shiikhow has raised questions, as no official reason has been given for his dismissal.

This move comes as Galmudug prepares for its upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, scheduled for October. With just weeks to go, President Kariye has been making several changes within his administration, including the replacement of ministers, in what appears to be part of his broader strategy to strengthen his position ahead of the elections.

Kariye is facing a challenging re-election bid, with around 10 presidential candidates expected to contest the race. His recent appointments and dismissals are seen as efforts to consolidate support and secure his position for another term.

However, uncertainty remains regarding to the Federal Government of Somalia’s stance on the upcoming elections in Galmudug, as well as in other federal member states, including Southwest State, Jubaland, and Hirshabelle.

The unclear position of the federal authorities could add an additional layer of complexity to the electoral process in these regions.

As the elections approach, all eyes will be on how the political landscape in Galmudug evolves and how these cabinet changes impact President Kariye’s campaign.
