Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Galmudug State Football Team on Monday afternoon the regional tournament cup after defeating Hirshabelle State Team with four-one goal victory in a penalty shoot out at Stadium Mogadishu.

Thousands of football fans supporting the two teams filled Mogadishu Football Stadium hours before the game started with heavy security forces presence in and outside the venue according to Mogadishu24.

Police and Security forces were stationed at the venue and all roads leading to the Stadium to ensure the safety and security of footballers and supporters going to watch the game according to the Police.

The regional Football Tournament began on December 31st, 2023 and took more than four weeks to come to an end today, January 29, 2023 because of conflict related to the sports management and violent incident in which at least six footballers from Southwest State were injured.

Southwest State team returned to Baidoa and refused to participate the remaining games of the tournament due to the attack on their team members in Mogadishu. Efforts to let return to the tournament ended in failure. Puntland State team was not also part of the regional tournament this year.

At least two people were killed and others injured after suicide bomber blew himself near Mogadishu Stadium during the last football game in the capital last week.

Despite security challenges and Police and Security forces’ efforts to ensure the securiyt, On-going regional tournaments attracted more than 40,000 spectators coming the venue to watch the games.
