Mogadishu, Somalia – The Himilo Qaran Party has issued a statement condemning what it describes as attempts by the election commission to pressure educational institutions in Mogadishu. In a statement released on May 26, 2025, the party stated that the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) had forced universities and schools to register students. The party emphasized that no citizen should be coerced into participating in an election that lacks broad consensus.“The Himilo Qaran Party warns the disputed election commission not to continue its pressure on the education sector,” the statement read. The party called on the election commission to halt its pressure on the education sector and urged educational institutions to refuse to comply with what it considers illegal actions by the commission.Additionally, Himilo Qaran called on the Federal Government to focus on building an election system that is based on agreement to avoid political uncertainty as the term of constitutional bodies in the federal government nears its end. This accusation follows a similar claim made earlier by the leader of the Wadajir Party, who accused the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of exerting strong pressure on universities in Mogadishu to forcibly register students, teachers, and staff.
