Mogadishu, Somalia – The Himilo Qaran Party has issued a statement expressing its sorrow over the human and material losses caused by the recent heavy rains in Mogadishu.

The party extended its condolences to the families affected by the disaster, especially those who lost loved ones due to the floods.

Himilo Qaran emphasized that while rain is a blessing from God, there was a lack of visible preparation by the government to mitigate the damage caused to the community, particularly the poor and displaced persons living in the capital.

“The government is not only to be remembered when votes are needed or for its own interests but must also ensure the protection of the lives, dignity, and safety of its citizens,” the statement read.

The Himilo Qaran Party has called on both the federal government and the Benadir regional administration to respond swiftly to the situation, including reopening the city’s drainage systems and constructing new ones. The party also urged the government to use tax revenues to support the affected population.

This comes after the recent rains in Mogadishu caused significant loss of life and property. The spokesperson for the Benadir Regional Administration, Salah Hassan Omar, informed the media that the rains in Mogadishu resulted in the death of 7 people – including two women – the destruction of 9 houses, damage to nearly 200 households’ homes, and the collapse of 6 important roads.
