Mogadishu, Somalia – The Embassy of Italy in Somalia has announced the opening of applications for the 2025/2026 MAECI Scholarships, a prestigious opportunity offered by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for foreign students, including Somali nationals, to pursue higher education in Italy.

In an official statement posted by the Italian Embassy’s X account in Somalia, students were informed that the application portal is now open and will close on May 16, 2025.

The scholarships, part of Italy’s efforts to promote cultural and academic cooperation, are available for:

• Master’s Degrees (Laurea Magistrale),
• PhD programs,
• Higher Education for Fine Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM),
• Research under academic supervision,
• Advanced Italian language and culture courses,
• And Bachelor’s degrees for students graduating from selected Italian schools abroad.

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must:

• Be foreign students or Italian citizens residing abroad.
• Meet academic qualifications related to the chosen course in Italy.
• Fulfill age limits depending on the program (typically under 28–40 years old).
• Prove language proficiency in either Italian or English (depending on the course medium).

Scholarship Benefits:
Recipients will receive:

• A monthly stipend (up to €9,000 for 9-month programs),
• Health insurance coverage,
• Full or partial tuition waivers (depending on the institution),
• Access to Italy’s top-tier educational institutions.

The initiative aims to deepen academic ties and cultural diplomacy between Italy and partner countries, including Somalia. Many Somali students have previously benefited from these scholarships, particularly in the fields of engineering, health sciences, and international relations.
