Mogadishu24 – Kismayo, 9 April 2025A clash between Jubaland regional forces and Al-Shabaab has resulted in the death of Abdi Dhuh, a senior commander who had long been affiliated with the group, according to multiple sources including his family.The battle took place on 6 April 2025 in the Wayaanta area of Afmadow district, approximately 110 km northwest of Kismayo. Local sources and security officials reported that Abdi Dhuh was injured during the clash and later died from his wounds. His death was officially confirmed by his family.Abdi Dhuh, aged 43, was described as one of the most influential members of Al-Shabaab in the Jubba regions. He joined the group in 2010 and held various leadership roles, especially in organization and combat operations.A year and a half ago, Abdi Dhuh was appointed as the Al-Shabaab commander for Jubbaland, taking over the position after the death of Muumin Dheere — another senior figure who was killed in an airstrike. According to security officials, Abdi Dhuh was the mastermind behind several planned attacks targeting Jubaland forces and African Union ATMIS troops.Intelligence reports indicate that his death has disrupted Al-Shabaab’s efforts to open a new front in the Jubba regions.Meanwhile, Al-Shabaab has not released any official statement regarding Abdi Dhuh’s death.
