Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Jubaland State government has formally rejected the communique issued by the National Consultative Council (NCC), accusing the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) of neglecting prior commitments related to elections and inclusivity.

In a statement, Jubaland officials criticized the federal government for its lack of implementation on previous agreements, particularly on conducting timely elections and engaging all key stakeholders.

Jubaland claims that, instead of prioritizing inclusivity, the federal government has ignored essential players like Puntland and Khaatumo States, proposing a term extension for Federal Member States (FMS) instead of adhering to the scheduled elections.

Jubaland affirmed its intention to hold regional elections this year, underscoring that the failure to include all FMS leaders in the NCC discussions has led to ongoing impasses.

Puntland had already boycotted the NCC meetings earlier, while Jubaland joined the opposition later this month, asserting that the NCC cannot reach meaningful consensus without Puntland’s participation.

The FGS has been lobbying for a one-person, one-vote election model, a proposal that opposition factions argue is unrealistic given current conditions.

The NCC has now failed twice this month to achieve a comprehensive agreement, with Jubaland officials emphasizing the need for a consensus-driven approach that includes all federal states.
