Beijing(Mogadishu24)-Kenyan President William Ruto on Thursday met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on the sidelines of the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing.The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral relations, regional stability, and Kenya’s bid for the African Union Commission leadership.President Ruto sought Somalia’s support for Kenyan candidate Raila Odinga, who is running for the AU Commission’s top position. President Hassan had previously canceled an invitation to attend the official launch of Odinga’s campaign in Nairobi, which was attended by other East African Community leaders.“We cherish our bilateral relations with Somalia and our continued cooperation on regional issues, including peace, security, and climate action,” Ruto shared on X, adding that the meeting also focused on the importance of stability in the Horn of Africa for regional development.Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga was also present at the meeting.
