The Mayor of Hargeisa, Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge, has responded to accusations and a request made by some members of the Hargeisa Local Council, who had called for an extraordinary council session. A two-part statement issued by his office stated that the request was not in accordance with the law and the council’s regulations, and that the allegations made against the mayor lacked any legal or factual basis. The statement clarified that the regular council session had been delayed due to election-related circumstances, and that no legitimate legal blame could be derived from that delay. The mayor also strongly rejected the claims that he had violated any legal provisions, insisting that he was fully fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities.Additionally, the mayor noted that the request letter submitted by the council members lacked the proper legal signatures, rendering it invalid. He further stated that some of the members who had signed the letter were not even involved in the accusations presented. Finally, Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge has referred the matter to the Standing Committee and the Ministry of Interior for further assessment of both the accusations and his formal response.
