Mogadishu Police Arrest Suspect for Inciting Voter Registration

MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – The Mogadishu Police Command has reported that Somali Police forces from the Dharkenley district station arrested a suspect, Maxamed Hassan Aadan, for inciting public disorder and defaming the Somali National Army.

According to a statement from the Mogadishu Police Command released on June 4, 2025, the suspect, who was dressed in military attire despite not being part of the Somali National Army, recorded a video in which he was seen threatening civilians.

The video of the suspect was widely circulated on social media, showing him instructing people to register for elections.

The Commander of the Mogadishu Police Command, Macalin Mahdi, stated that the suspect will be presented to court for legal action.

This incident comes amidst recent allegations over the past weeks that the Electoral Commission has used the military to force people to register, which the Electoral Commission strongly denied.
