Mogadishu, Somalia – Over 110,000 people have been forced to flee their homes following clashes in parts of Puntland as well as the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

OCHA further noted that ongoing inter-clan conflicts across various areas have displaced thousands more in recent months. Meanwhile, persistent drought and lower-than-average rainfall have exacerbated the displacement crisis.

This situation comes as Somalia continues to face worsening food insecurity. A recent report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) projects that nearly 4.6 million people will face high levels of hunger between now and June 2025. Additionally, about 1.8 million children under the age of five are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition — including approximately 480,000 who are at risk of severe malnutrition.

OCHA has warned that humanitarian needs in Somalia are increasing at a time when aid funding is declining. The 2025 humanitarian appeal for Somalia, which requires $1.42 billion, is currently only 9% funded — with just $131 million received so far.
