Mogadishu – Mortar shells were fired near Mogadishu International Airport and the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSOM) base in Xalane early this morning. The attack occurred around 6:00 AM local time, with several shells hitting areas near the Italian Embassy.
Initial reports indicate that there have been no casualties or damage to property, according to a statement from AUSOM. However, the attack caused international airlines such as Turkish Airlines and Egypt Air to cancel their flights to Mogadishu. It is believed that the flight cancellations are related to the mortar attack that occurred earlier today in the capital.
Additionally, yesterday marked the latest mortar attack near the Somali Presidential Palace, where at least six people were injured.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for these mortar attacks, which have targeted key locations in Mogadishu, including the Presidential Palace, Xalane, and the Italian Embassy.
