GAALKACYO, PUNTLAND – May 18, 2025 — The Governor of Mudug region, Faysal Sheikh Cali, has strongly condemned a recent security incident in Gaalkacyo involving elements of the Puntland Security Forces (PSF), calling it a serious breach of public order.

Speaking after an emergency security meeting held on May 18, Governor Faysal declared that all unlawful activities and unauthorized military movements are now strictly prohibited in the region. The meeting concluded with new directives aimed at tightening overall security and preventing any further disruptions.

“This act is unacceptable. We have made it clear that no one is permitted to undermine public security. We are fully responsible for safety in this region, and we will not negotiate on that,” Governor Faysal stated.

According to the Governor, the incident involved PSF forces entering Gaalkacyo without authorization and establishing an illegal checkpoint in the city center, triggering tension and alarm among residents.

Security Oversight Reinforced

A statement from Puntland authorities confirmed that the Regional Security Committee has been tasked with restoring stability and has urged all security agencies and civilians to cooperate closely. Law enforcement has also been instructed to take decisive action against any group or individual attempting to destabilize the region.
