Mogadishu, May 7, 2025 – The National Consultative Council (NCC) has agreed that the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation will propose recommendations for resolving the situation in Jubaland, in accordance with the country’s constitution and laws. This was part of the 10-point conclusions drawn from the council’s meeting held yesterday and today in Mogadishu.The political dispute between the central government and Jubaland began over the national election process. Jubaland held an election in which President Ahmed Mohamed Islam was re-elected, a move opposed by the federal government, which claimed the election was not legal. However, Jubaland stood firm in its decision and severed ties with Mogadishu.The Minister of Information for Jubaland, speaking at the conclusion of the National Consultative Council meeting in Mogadishu, stated on his social media that Jubaland would not be concerned with anything that arises from the meetings.This political conflict resurfaced when the Federal Government, under President Farmaajo, and Jubaland failed to agree on how to approach the election process, leading to Jubaland opposing the federal government’s decisions. Former President Farmaajo had granted President Ahmed Islam a two-year interim mandate, which contributed to the growing tensions.
