Mogadishu – The Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Somalia has once again issued a serious warning directed at vessels and fishermen operating in Somali waters, cautioning against the dangers posed by weather conditions.

The State Minister for Fisheries, Yusuf Mohamed Waliid, announced that from May 25 to December 15, 2025, strong winds and high waves are expected in Somali waters, posing a major risk to seafarers and maritime vessels.

The Minister specifically highlighted that large vessels exceeding 150 tons in weight are banned from entering Somali waters during this period, due to the risks and challenges associated with turbulent weather conditions and strong winds spanning from the Indian Ocean to the Gulf of Aden.

We are warning large vessels operating in Somali waters — any ship weighing over 150 tons is not allowed to enter the sea, as significant challenges may arise,” said Yusuf Mohamed Waliid, State Minister for Fisheries.

The Ministry also issued a stern warning to the Somali public, particularly young people, after more than 10 people recently lost their lives at sea, underscoring the serious dangers posed by the current ocean conditions.

This warning comes just after a previous public advisory issued on May 24, in which the Ministry raised awareness about the risks of turbulent weather at sea and urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious.
