Mogadishu, Somalia – The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in collaboration with the Somali National Army (SNA), has announced that it conducted six coordinated military operations in the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions, resulting in the death of more than 80 Al-Shabaab militants.

In an official press release issued on Sunday, NISA stated that the operations took place between March 29 and April 4, targeting the areas of Sabiid, Caanoole, Al-Kowthar, Bursha Sheekh, and Aw-baalle.

“In the past week, NISA forces, in cooperation with the Somali National Army, conducted six operations in the Shabelle regions, eliminating over 80 Khawarij fighters, including field commanders and combatants,” the statement read.

NISA added that these operations were part of broader counter-terrorism efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s networks and strongholds in southern Somalia.

The announcement comes amid a surge in fighting between Somali government forces and Al-Shabaab in recent weeks. The government has pledged to intensify both aerial and ground offensives, while Al-Shabaab continues to escalate attacks on government-held towns and villages in the Shabelle corridor.
